The seven-minute video posted on Wednesday on Facebook shows a white police officer lying on top of a crying Black woman as she appears to vomit and says, “I can’t breathe.” The officer, identified as Kaufman County Deputy Conner Martin, is lying on top of 18-year-old Nekia Trigg as women around them scream. Local residents had apparently contacted the Kaufman County sheriff’s department to report Trigg, of Forney, was jumping in front of cars, possibly in a suicidal manner....

Per ESPN’s Adam Schefter, Boger’s crew is not expected to receive high grades after calling a game highlighted by a controversial touchdown late in the first half — one that proved the ultimate difference in a 26-19 victory over Las Vegas. Schefter reports the NFL normally chooses its Super Bowl officiating team from the divisional rounds, but that teams that earn a high enough grade during wild-card weekend can call the Super Bowl....

Local police said the incident took place on Friday night, WLWT Cincinnati has reported, adding that the parents had been watching an eighth grade girls volleyball game between the St. Susanna and St. Peter and Paul schools. The alleged victim walked outside after being annoyed by a decision in the game and was then jumped in the parking lot by the accused attackers, the hospitalized man’s wife told police....

The 14-year-old girl, who has not been named as she is a juvenile, was detained after deputies from the Licking County Sheriff’s Office received information regarding the alleged threats. The freshmen student at Watkins Memorial High School in Pataskala, Ohio, allegedly posted a list of people she said was going to kill in May 2019. During the investigation, police ruled that the girl had “no means to carry out the threats and there is no immediate danger to students, staff or others mentioned on the list....

Franklin County Common Pleas Judge Richard Frye recently ruled that a decision from Republican Ohio Secretary of State Frank LaRose to only allow one ballot drop box per county had no legal basis. The Ohio Republican Party on Tuesday issued a statement in response accusing the judge of making the ruling due to his “partisan affiliation.” Ohio Supreme Court Chief Justice Maureen O’Connor, who is a Republican, condemned the statement “in the strongest possible terms” with her own scathing statement on Wednesday....

The lawsuit says the EdChoice Program is taking away funding that should be going to school districts and gave $2 billion to private schools over the past decade through the voucher program. Supporters of the suit say this goes against the goals laid out in the state Constitution for a “system of common schools,” according to The Columbus Dispatch. “Funding schools that aren’t for everybody is not the business of the Ohio General Assembly, and it is not the responsibility of Ohio taxpayers to pay for these private schools,” Eric Brown, a member of the Columbus School Board, said in a press conference announcing the lawsuit Tuesday....

The 27 cases represent just 0.0005 percent of the nearly 6 million votes cast in Ohio, a state Donald Trump won by almost 500,000 votes in the 2020 election, illustrating the rarity of voter fraud despite continued claims from Trump and his allies that fraud was widespread across several states. “Our state is proof positive you don’t have to choose between secure or convenient elections – we have both,” LaRose, a Republican, said in a statement....

David Uible, 59, of Ohio Township, was charged on Tuesday with one count of falsification, a first degree misdemeanor, and obstructing official business, a second degree misdemeanor, linked to allegations filed earlier this month, according to the Clermont County Sheriff’s Office. Uible, a former Clermont County Commissioner, is accused of making “false statements to a detective in an attempt to mislead and obstruct” an investigation, police said. During separate legal issues, the Ohio politician pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor count of tampering with records in 2018 and was sentenced to probation and fined $250 last December, the Cincinnati Enquirer reported....

The school announced Thursday that a two-year extension for Meyer was approved by a committee of the board, sending it to the full board to decide Friday. “I want to thank President Michael V. Drake for his guidance and the Board of Trustees for its work in considering this extension,” said Ohio State Vice President and Athletic Director Gene Smith. “I think everyone will agree that we have one of the finest coaches and mentors in Urban Meyer leading our football program....

There is a possibility, however, that the game could be postponed until Jan. 18. AL.com reported the game could be pushed back to Jan. 18 because of player availability concerns with Ohio State. Stadium’s Brett McMurphy also reported the game could be postponed: Yahoo Sports’ Pete Thamel reported that, as of now, Ohio State is planning on playing the game Monday. Alabama, Ohio State and the SEC reportedly are all pushing for the game to be played, but Big Ten officials reportedly have raised concerned about the Buckeyes participating under the circumstances....

Game time is scheduled for 8 p.m. ET on FOX. For Ohio State, it’s the start of a potential fifth straight Big Ten championship season. Third-year coach Ryan Day hasn’t lost a conference game, and new starting quarterback C.J. Stroud will throw to arguably the best group of receivers in the FBS. The Buckeyes have several exciting newcomers looking to make an impact, too. Minnesota is looking to bounce back after a COVID-riddled 2019 season....

Jones, 41, has been on death row for more than two decades for the 1999 killing of businessman Paul Howell, but has always maintained he is innocent. On Monday, the parole board voted 3-1 for Stitt, a Republican, to commute his sentence to life in prison with the possibility of parole after several panel members said they had doubts about the evidence that led to Jones being convicted. The board had also recommended Jones’ sentence be commuted in September, but Stitt’s office said the governor would wait until after the clemency hearing was over....

On January 6, 2022, Terry and Teresa O’Donnell did a “walk-through booking” at the Midwest City Jail, Midwest City Police Chief Sid Porter said. Porter said they were immediately released on bond, with Terry O’Donnell’s being $23,000 and Teresa O’Donnell’s was $16,000. Terry O’Donnell, a Catoosa Republican, announced in a statement later Thursday that he will resign from his position as House speaker pro tempore on February 2 as he and his wife combat the charges against them....

Hill was allegedly arguing with his 20-year-old girlfriend before he “struck her in the face and stomach and choked her,” according to the police report. The victim told police she had been dating Hill since June and was eight weeks pregnant with his child. She noted her relationship with the athlete was physical before, but not to this extent. The victim was treated for injuries and released from the hospital....

I’m not sure what turned the run game around, but something happened after that loss to the Longhorns. In their last seven games of the year, Oklahoma averaged 300 yards rushing per contest. Samaje Perine, its leading ball carrier, averaged 132 during the late-season surge as opposed to 73 through the first five games. Quarterback Baker Mayfield receives many of the team’s accolades, and he played great all season, but it was the revival of the running game that turned the season around....
