How do you foresee the future of French television?
I fear the worst. With the course it’s taking–fake laughter, commercial programming–culture is sacrificed.
And French literature?
It’s evident that French literature is not in a great period. Perhaps it is simply resting. I’d like to think that at least. That means there’s hope.
What will you do with your time off?
Take time to read what I have missed: young Americans and old Japanese. Catch up a bit. I haven’t had personal reading for pleasure for 25 years.
What are you most proud of?
That my program never cost very much, and I kept all of my hair.
How many people watched the last “Bouillon de Culture”?
One point two million. If they had all been as successful as that last program, it might not have been the last.
