The Big 12 is set to hear pitches from 18 schools that want to join the conference — UC included — though many experts and coaches within the conference have pegged Houston and BYU as the favorites to join.
Cincinnati, of the American Athletic Conference, doesn’t have the same geographic fit as some of the Big 12’s other targets, but does offer a previously untapped media market, ranked as the 36th largest in the country. Houston’s market ranks 10th, while Salt Lake City in Utah ranks as No. 34.
