The 22-year-old Edmonton Oilers prospect fractured his larynx and badly damaged his vocal cords Saturday night while blocking a shot on goal for the Bakersfield Condors.
Bunz was not wearing a neckguard on his helmet when he caught a slapshot from Ontario Reign defenseman Matt Register — just below his mask in the normally-protected area.

Though the injury was worse than initially expected, Bunz was in good spirits — even joking about the accident.
