“The chant was not invented by the two that led it, but taught to underclassmen by people of higher authority," the statement read. “As a team, we have come to a consensus that, in any organization, the leadership is responsible for the culture created, an in this case, encouraged.”

Per the statement, the Oklahoma players will seek to continue to raise awareness on the issue and reiterate that this is much greater than football. They have not practiced this week and will demonstrate silently on Owen Field during normal practice time. 

The team has also called for additional punishment for SAE beyond expulsions that already have issued.
