Griffin average 22.7 points and 14.4 rebound during the 2008-09 season and led the Sooners to the Elite Eight. He is just the fifth Oklahoma player to have his jersey retired, joining Alvan Adams, Mookie Blaylock, Stacey King and Wayman Tisdale (who also wore No. 23).

After the game, Griffin visited the team in the locker room and posed with National Player of the Year candidate Buddy Hield.
