Riley, whose Sooners lost to Georgia 54-46 in last season’s Rose Bowl, appeared on ESPNU SiriusXM on Tuesday, saying Georgia’s defense wouldn’t be near as effective if the Bulldogs played in the Big 12.

“If you throw Georgia in the Big 12 every year there is no way they are a top-five defense in the country,” Riley said.

Riley on Twitter later clarified he wasn’t taking a dig at Georgia, just touting the Big 12’s offensive prowess.

In 2017, Georgia finished No. 6 in the nation in total defense (294.9 yards per game), while Oklahoma had the country’s best offense behind Baker Mayfield (579.6 yards per game).
