The old woman was caught on camera by @laurenhope94 whose relation to the woman is unknown. She can be seen standing next to the bride and groom holding a headshot of a man underneath her arm.

Tiktokers have assumed this is her late husband.

Over three million people have watched the tear-jerking video on TikTok, that has to-date received more than 530,000 likes.

The U.S. Census Bureau shows that 71 percent of men and 69 percent of women aged 65 or older became widows in 2016.

The data also revealed widowhood is particularly common among older women compared to older men due to marked differences in life expectancy. Women on average live longer than men.

Among those 75 years or older who had married, 58 percent of women and 28 percent of men had experienced the death of a spouse in their lifetime, making this stage of life particularly difficult for older adults.

Tips For Dealing With Loss and Grief

Newsweek spoke to family therapist Hilary Sims, who specializes in bereavement.

She said: “Accepting that it is ok to feel sad and it is ok to cry and let people know that you are sad. Bottling it up and not sharing it will not help. When you tell people you feel sad, it is not because you want them to solve this for you, it just helps to share how you feel.”

“There is no set time for how long the grieving process will take and everyone will experience loss in a unique way.”

“Find someone to talk to who is not emotionally involved in the loss. Talking to other family members can be hard, as they are trying to process the loss too.”

“Remember, where possible to take care of your physical health by eating properly, and exercising if possible. If your physical health is in a good place, it will support your mental health.”

What Do the Comments Say?

One user wrote: “Heartbreaking, someone needs to cuddle this lady for me.”

“I hope there is a heaven,” said another.

The video seems to have caught many people off guard as lots of comments are from people who are “crying.”

Racking up over 600 likes, another comment said: “I wasn’t expecting to cry over my breakfast this morning but here we are.”

Newsweek reached out to @laurenhope94 for comment. We could not verify the details of the case.
