Gone are Tiger Woods (2000, 2005, 2006), Padraig Harrington (2007, 2008), Stewart Cink (2009), Louis Oosthuizen (2010), Darren Clarke (2011), Ernie Els (2012), Phil Mickelson (2013), Zach Johnson (2015), Henrik Stenson (2016) and Collin Morikawa (2021).

Rory McIlroy (2014), Jordan Spieth (2017) and Francesco Molinari (2018) survived the cut, which was set at even par.

The remaining golfers, led by Cameron Smith, Cameron Young and McIlroy, will be paired in twosomes for the third round. Smith shot an 8-under 64 in the second round to vault to the top of the leaderboard and cap one of the best 36-hole performances in the history of The Open (13 under for the tournament). He will enter Saturday with a two stroke lead over Cameron Young, who posted a 64 in the first round.
