Thus far, Scottie Scheffler (Masters), Justin Thomas (PGA Championship) and Matt Fitzpatrick (U.S. Open) have claimed the 2021-22 PGA Tour campaign’s major events. Who will step up and claim the 2022 Open Championship?
Only time will tell, but the race for the Claret Jug is only one of many storylines this year. There is also the return to the historic Old Course at St. Andrews, which hosts the event for the first time since 2015; an almost equally historic return by Tiger Woods to his favorite venue; and an increasingly vitriolic feud between the PGA Tour and the burgeoning LIV Golf Invitational Series.
Sounds like an exciting weekend of golf.

Open Championship purse 2022
A historic Open Championship deserves a historic purse and winner’s share. Both amounts this year will set tournament records: a $14 million purse (up from $11.5 million in 2021) and a $2.5 million payout to the winner (up from $2.07 million).
That said, those numbers still lag behind the other three majors on the 2021-22 PGA Tour. The 2022 U.S. Open featured a $17.5 million purse and $3.15 million winner’s share, while the PGA Championship and Masters Tournament each featured a $15 million purse and $2.7 million winner’s share.
