Oprah Winfrey’s OWN announced its project with Sam will now be a 90-minute special that will air Dec. 27 at 9 p.m. ET., ESPN’s Darren Rovell reported .
From the official news release, per USA Today’s The Big Lead :
After announcing the original plan for the documentary on May 14, OWN unsurprisingly postponed its plans two days later. Sam, the Rams’ seventh-round pick in the 2014 NFL Draft, was already facing a difficult road to the NFL after coming out as gay in February, and the documentary would’ve added another layer of pressure in his attempt to make a team. However, Sam has since been cut by the Rams and Cowboys.
Earlier this month, Sam denied any collaboration with Oprah and OWN in an impromptu interview with TMZ at LAX.
“I think she has bigger problems than to deal with me,” he said .
