Davis was suspended 25 games last season after testing positive a second time for Adderall, a drug on the league’s banned substance list. He’s now been granted an exemption for Vyvanse, a drug similar Adderall, to treat his ADHD.
Vyvanse is an amphetamine, but reportedly lasts longer making it less likely to be abused for non-therapeutic reasons. Davis says he has responded well Vyvanse during the offseason.
It’s not uncommon for MLB to grant exemptions for ADHD. Davis said he was diagnosed with ADHD in 2008 and has had an exemption for Adderall in previous seasons, but was denied an exemption in 2013 or 2014.
