Deadline reported Friday that the Star Wars actor is attached to play the main protagonist of the Jordan Vogt-Roberts (Kong: Skull Island) film. The Metal Gear Solid film script is being written by Derek Connolly, and there’s no date for the movie to start filming, but Isaac has prepared for this role.
Back in March 2019, while the cast of the Netflix original film Triple Frontier was doing an interview with IGN, the question of whether they’d do a video game film was asked. Isaac said he’d do Metal Gear Solid and he’s “throwing his hat into that.”
When asked which character he’d play, Isaac obviously said Snake.
Not long after the interview went live, director Vogt-Roberts took to social media to acknowledge what Isaac said and took it a step further, telling the actor that the “ball’s in Oscar’s court.”
“To everyone asking how I feel about Oscar Isaac saying he wants to be Solid Snake. The full process required to cast an icon hasn’t even started,” Vogt-Roberts tweeted in March 2019. “But..Ask @Bosslogic where the idea for his brilliant mock up came from. The ball’s in Oscar’s court.”
Bosslogic, the renowned digital artist famous for casting actors in iconic roles, provided the director with his vision, which now seems prophetic with the casting of Isaac in the Solid Snake role.
Metal Gear Solid was created by iconic video game producer Hideo Kojima and published by Konami.
The first Metal Gear Solid game was launched on the original PlayStation in 1998. The plot follows Snake, a soldier whose mission is to stop a terrorist threat from the renegade special forces unit, Foxhound.
There have been five main series games–with much more spin offs–with the last Metal Gear Solid game (Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain) releasing in 2015.
Metal Gear Solid V marked the last game Kojima was attached to the series before he left Konami.
