Favre said he wants fans to be able to watch the ceremony and wants it done inside Lambeau Field. Favre’s No. 4 will be retired at the ceremony and the team will add his name and number on the north facade of the stadium during a 2015 home game.

“This viewing opportunity from the stadium will be a unique complement to a special evening and allow more people to share their excitement with Brett,” Packers president and CEO Mark Murphy said in a statement.

Favre spent 16 of his 20 NFL seasons in Green Bay and led the Packers to consecutive Super Bowls in 1996 and 1997, winning Super Bowl XXXI. A three-time league MVP, Favre retired as the NFL’s all-time leader in passing yards, touchdowns and wins. He also holds a record of 298 consecutive games started.
