The two drivers were traveling in opposite directions near Weddington, N.C., when Thompson crossed the center line on Potter Road as both were rounding a bend. Each driver attempted to swerve, but instead their vehicles collided head-on, according to Raleigh television station WTVD.

Thompson was not injured, but Boone was taken to the hospital with injuries that are not life-threatening. Thompson was cited for driving left of center, according to the North Carolina Highway Patrol, via Black and Blue Review. While alcohol was involved, it was not a factor as Thompson was below the legal limit.

“Shaq informed us he was involved in a traffic accident and we are in the process of gathering more information,” a Panthers spokesman told Black and Blue Review.

Thompson, 22, and Boone, 24, do not know each other. Thompson, Carolina’s first-round pick in 2015, spent Tuesday at a charity event run by Panthers fullback Mike Tolbert.
