Though many predicted the new campaign-finance regulations would dampen the conventions’ partying mood, organizers say they’ve had no problems making sure their galas lie well within the limits of the law. “Nothing has really changed, except I’d say the parties are bigger,” says lobbyist Wayne Smith, who is organizing Breaux’s Caribbean-theme bash. “The big difference is that lawmakers and their staffs have left the planning entirely up to us.”
