Central Bucks West High School in Doylestown, Penn., has canceled the remainder of its football season following allegations of waterboarding and sexually-explicit acts of hazing, according to a recent report from The Intelligencer.
The school first learned of the allegations on Oct. 14, at which point interviews were conducted involving team members and the coaching staff.
On Thursday, Superintendent David Weitzel officially suspended the program for the final two games citing “improper conduct by numerous Central Bucks West football players” and a failure by the coaching staff to properly monitor activities.
Hazing, whether involving Greek life or athletics, is vulgar, cruel and unacceptable in all regards. But waterboarding, an act typically associated with torture, is incredible disturbing.
The Central Bucks West football program has a long tradition of excellence on the gridiron in the greater-Philadelphia area, having won four state titles in the 90s. However, 2014 has been a struggle for the Bucks, going just 2-6 in their first eight games.
Their two remaining games were supposed to be against rivals Central Bucks East and William Tennant, but the games will both result in a forfeit.
